RMR200 MCN REVIEW by Chris Pearson (03-05-07)

SUPERBYKE RMR200

One for the money

Built in China, Specked in UK, a top budget bike says Chris Pearson (MCN Review)

It,s a Chinease bike but not as we know it. In the first place, with its sleek syling and Suzuki-based single cylinder engine. the RMR200 is one fine looking machine. Its goes well too. the extra bit of cylinder bore adding a whole load of stomp to the proceedings in the form of meaty torque.

For a budget bike, there does seem to be a high level of equipment and trick looking cycle parts. Likewise with the design - engine size apart - it looks every inch a convincing supermotard.

The basic reason for this high spec and style is that, though built in China, it has been commissioned by Superbyke of Bristol and built to their specification and design. As a result, the plastics are well moulded and everywhere you look things appear to have been bolted on correctly.

A beefy ally swingarm and single shock holds the rear end, while both wheels are laced with stainless steel spokes and use triple-wall alloy rims. A nice touch is the substantial aluminium pillion grab rails, although seat space is at a premium.

At all speeds RMR is well behaved and predictable, feeling solid and holding the road well. Its road manners are impeccable, relying heavily upon the relatively unknown Kinngston tyres and well set-up suspension.

They may not yet be well known, but this rubber is soft and grippy enough to allow much silliness - particularly into an mid-corner.

At first there did appear to be a weak point - the front brake wasn`t so keen to play during the first few runs. But a quick look at speedo revealed our test bike was virtually brand new ou of the crate, and as the pads got better acquanted with wavy disc they soon became bosom buddies. The bite improved as the ride continued and combined with the effective single leading shoe rear drum brake, the RMR can stop on the proerbial pre-decimalised cionage. Everything else works as it should, with argonomically sound switchgear and well laid-out dash adding the finishing touches.

The Suzuki-licensed single overhead camshaft engine is happy revving away, consuming all five gears in no time and crying out for sixth on the flat. The air-cooled two-valve unit is in a mid state of tune with only 15.4bhp but the lightweight package makes the optimal use of every pony.

Superbyke claims an impressive  100mpg  so the RMR200 could make a frugal commuter as well as a fun bike for the weekends. Its scores in a lot of areas, not least being the build quality, looks and the price.

RMR200 Review by Martin Lake (26-04-2007)

RMR 125/200

Is this really Chinese!

After years of riding Japanese Italian and German motorcycles this little super moto is a revelation, you really wouldn't know where it was built the quality is really that good.

All the controls fall naturally to hand, the switchgear and levers are quality items and a delight to use, the gearbox is slick and positive, even allowing clutch less up shifts when brisk acceleration is needed. The digital gear indicator is a useful extra normally only found on bikes at five times the price, a real bonus for those of us who loose track when changing up or down the gearbox.

The wavy disc front brake and rear drum have more than enough feel and power for a bike this size and bring the RMR to a beautifully controlled stop whether the tarmac is wet or dry.

The suspension has been well chosen by the factory, springing and damping working well together giving a controlled ride and coping with everything British roads can throw at it, the upside down forks giving the right look for a super moto and for the pie lovers amongst us there is preload adjustment on the rear shock.

The long dual seat on the RMR is a real surprise, far more comfortable than you would expect on this style of bike, I felt no need to fidget after more than an hour in the saddle.

This size of machine would to most motorcyclists be the ideal town or learner bike; it is though capable of far more than basic commuting and wobbling around at CBT time. Well chosen gearbox and final drive ratios within the Suzuki licensed engine leave you and the bike feeling relaxed and unstressed wherever your ride takes you.

At A road speeds the bike is more than competent holding its own even when hills and headwinds try to interfere with progress. Around town the upright stance and excellent controls make splitting rush hour jams a joy. Even a short motorway blast proved a success, with the RMR making excellent progress at the national speed limit.

At only £1695 OTR for the RMR125 and £1795 OTR for the RMR200 these bikes deliver quality and performance at a very affordable price. Whether you're a first time rider or a dyed in the wool lifelong biker, go and have a look, I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised.
